The Macao International Art Biennale 2025 (otherwise known as Art Macao) is now underway, offering a diverse programme of over 30 exhibitions.
Among the public art is Time Tower, recently unveiled at the Macao Cultural Centre Plaza.
The installation is part of Art Macao’s “Waves and Ways” section, which focuses on fluidity and aims to integrate art into Macao’s urban fabric and daily life through five artworks by eight artists from Macao and abroad.
Along with Huzhou (mainland China) Kamakura (Japan) and Anseong (South Korea) Macao has been designated as a Culture City of East Asia this year. To mark this, Time Tower was a collaborative effort by artists from places that have received the designation. They include Chinese contemporary artist Guan Huaibin, known for installation and multimedia art; Japanese artist Hirotoshi Sakaguchi, an honorary professor at Tokyo University of the Arts with expertise in painting and landscape art; and influential Korean contemporary artist Kim Sang-yeon, whose work draws on Eastern philosophy to explore the relationship between humanity and nature.

Beyond the public installations, the Community Co-Creation and Mutual-Aid Project of San Mei On, by Australian artist Jason Ho, has launched at Block 2, San Mei On Building, featuring several installations created as a result of an artist residency programme. Due to the private nature of the San Mei On Building, visits require advance appointments via “Jason Ho’s Mapping Workshop” WeChat account.
“Art Macao 2025” is organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau, under the patronage of the Secretariat for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macao SAR Government. Co-organisers include the Macao Government Tourism Office, Galaxy Entertainment Group, Melco Resorts & Entertainment, MGM, Sands China Ltd., SJM Resorts, S.A., and Wynn Resorts Macau.
