The annual Lusofonia Festival will be returning to Macao this year in an expanded form, TDM reports.
Instead of being held over a mere three days, it will be staged on two consecutive weekends, from 25 to 27 October and from 1 to 3 November.
The extension, which was proposed by the Cultural Affairs Bureau, has raised ambivalent feelings. Amélia António, the head of the Casa de Portugal, one of the main participating associations in the event, told TDM that it was “good news,” even though it raised a “big challenge” in light of staffing and funding problems.

First organised in 1998, the Lusofonia Festival has become a significant event in Macao, promoting Portuguese culture through food, drinks, music, games and the sale of Portuguese products.
The 26th iteration of the Lusofonia Festival was held last year at the Taipa Houses, Taipa Amphitheatre and Largo do Carmo from 27 and 29 October. It featured performances from Portuguese and Macao-based musical acts such as Da Weasel, Fogogo and Jandira Silva.
Funding talks are currently underway between the Cultural Affairs Bureau and festival organisers.
