The inaugural International Children’s Art Festival is scheduled to take place from July to August, according to an announcement made yesterday by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (also known by its Portuguese acronym IC).
The bureau stated that the event is intended to encourage families and children to experience art up close and cultivate children’s interest in the subject while broadening their aesthetic sensibility.
Although a specific programme has yet to be announced, the bureau said that it is inviting local and international artistic groups to offer a diverse range of events across different parts of Macao. The programme will include stage performances, film exhibitions, art exhibitions, book exhibitions, large outdoor installations, workshops and an art carnival.

“For the programme, we have invited a team from Portugal,” said the head of the IC, Leong Wai Man, during a committee meeting yesterday. “As for the detailed rundown, we will announce it later at the press conference for this international festival.” Leong added that there will be troupes from Argentina, Spain, the US and mainland China, with the latter being represented by a Palace Museum musical group.
During the committee meeting, the IC president also mentioned that Macao had been shortlisted as one of the possible Chinese nominees for the title of East Asia Cultural Capital 2025.
Leong said that Macao was competing against five other mainland cities for the honour. She noted that government representatives had visited Beijing earlier this month to showcase Macao’s offerings and received an encouraging response from the review committee.
