The Cultural Development Fund (known by its Portuguese abbreviation FDC) is inviting filmmakers to apply for subsidies for the making of cinematographic and television works that either feature “Macao elements” or are filmed on location in Macao.
According to a statement on the FDC’s website, applications will be accepted from today until 29 November and can cover soap operas, films, documentaries, variety programs, music videos and advertisements, but not animations.
For work featuring “Macao elements” – such as local cuisine, history or culture – the FDC can offer up to 80 percent of the publicity and distribution budget, or a maximum of 250,000 patacas (US$31,000).

For productions filmed in Macao, up to 40 percent of location expenses are offered, or a maximum of 2 million patacas (just under US$250,000). Location shooting must be no less than three days’ duration, and other conditions apply.
All works subsidised by the FDC must “promote the city’s image and improve Macau’s international reputation” the fund says.
