Macao welcomed 2.3 million visitors last month. That’s a 28.6 percent decrease on August’s tally, and 17 percent less than July’s, according to official figures.
There were slightly more overnight visitors than day-trippers (1.16 million compared with 1.13 million), and overnighters stayed for 2.5 days on average,
The city continues to remain overwhelmingly dependent on domestic tourism. Mainlanders and Hong Kongers made for 69 and 23.2 percent of September’s arrivals, respectively.

The September figures, however, do not take in the bulk of the Mid-Autumn and National Day holiday’s visitors (who didn’t begin arriving until 29 September).
While average daily visitor arrivals for September came in at 76,701, this figure shot up to 116,546 during the eight-day festival.
Over the recently concluded three-day weekend, Macao’s daily visitor arrivals averaged 100,568 – indicating October’s final tally could be better.
