Gallons of fuel leaked into the harbour after two cargo ships slammed into each other near the Macao Science Centre in NAPE on Saturday.

According to the Marine and Water Bureau (DSAMA) one vessel, De Xing X, was seriously damaged and sprang a leak, while the other, Shung Xing X was only slightly damaged.

None of the 12 crew was injured, and all were safely escorted to a DSAMA rescue vessel.

The DSAMA added that its ships had mopped up the fuel leak, and the situation was later brought under control.

As De Xing X was carrying steel, the DSAMA needed to unload the cargo to another ship before salvaging the vessel.

The DSAMA is in contact with the ships’ companies and continues to investigate the accident.
