Macao’s visitor arrivals rose 206.9 per cent month-to-month but fell 93.7 per cent year-on-year to 227,113 in August, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) announced on Monday.
A DSEC statement attributed the triple-digit month-to-month growth to a strong increase in mainland visitors.
Last month’s same-day visitors and overnight visitors stood at 156,481 and 70,632 respectively. The proportion of same-day visitors reached 68.9 per cent, up by 15.7 percentage points year-on-year. Overnight visitors’ average stay rose by one day to 3.3 days.
The number of mainland visitors fell by 92.4 per cent year-on-year to 200,833 last month. Visitors from the nine Pearl River Delta (PRD) cities in the Greater Bay Area (GBA) reached 130,781, of whom 88,470 were from Zhuhai. There were 23,415 visitors from Hong Kong and 2,862 from Taiwan.
Only 1,739 visitors arrived by air last month.
In the first eight months of the year, the number of visitor arrivals dropped by 87.0 per cent year-on-year to 3.57 million. Visitors from the mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwan accounted for 94.5 per cent of the total number.
