The Labour Affairs Bureau (DSAL) said in a statement on Monday that it will launch two vocational subsidy programmes, and the registration process will start next week.

The statement said according to the “Subsidised Training Plan”, the bureau will launch the scheme to alleviate the social and economic impact caused by the COVID-19 epidemic.

According to the statement, the scheme will have two programmes, “Subsidised training plan geared towards employability” and “Subsidised training plan for technical skills enhancement”.

The statement said that the enrolment for the skill enhancement subsidy programme will start next Monday. If the training is done during working hours, employers will receive MOP 5,000 for each employee who has completed the training, the statement said. However, the statement underlined that employees who are on unpaid leave during the training or self-employed who join the programme will receive the MOP 5,000 subsidy from the government upon completion.

According to the statement, the skill enhancement programme includes business management, languages, tourism, and technology training. Registration for the first round of courses will run from 7 September to 11 September, the statement said.

Moreover, there are two subgroups in the training programme for the unemployed, “Technical skills enhancement training” and “Career referral training”, the statement noted, pointing out that those who complete the course and land a new job will receive a MOP 6,656 subsidy.

According to the statement, the programme is made for Macao residents who became unemployed due to the termination of their contract on or after 1 January 2019, or university graduates from this year. The sign-up period for the employability training programme is between 14 and 18 September.
