The Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre announced the city’s 39th novel coronavirus case, classified as imported.

The New Coronavirus Coordination Center stated that on March 30, a new confirmed case of imported new coronavirus pneumonia was the 39th case in Macau.

The patient is a 9-year-old female Macau resident and student, daughter of the 34th confirmed case in Macau. Since November last year, she was with her father and brother in Manila, Philippines, to visit their mother who works there.

The patient, her father and brother took Cathay Pacific Flight CX902 from Manila to Hong Kong at about 7 p.m. on March 18. Arrive in Hong Kong at about 9 p.m. and transfer to the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge. When entering Macau, all three were asymptomatic and their temperatures were normal.

Upon arrival, they were required by the Health Bureau for home quarantine and medical observation for 14 days according to measures at the time.

They took bus 101 home. The patient, her father and her elder brother were home quarantined at Heihuan Huajing Garden Block 1. All three were isolated in separate rooms within the unit.

The patient’s throat saliva sample on March 26 and nasopharyngeal swab sample on March 27 were negative for the novel coronavirus by nucleic acid testing, but she was admitted to Conde de S. Januário Hospital Centre for follow-up.

A nasopharyngeal swab test performed on Monday was positive, confirming that she had the novel coronavirus.

Macau’s 39 confirmed COVID-19 cases includes 10 patients – seven tourists from Wuhan and three locals – who have been discharged from hospital. The other 29 cases, all of them imported, have been confirmed since March 15.

Macau’s first novel coronavirus case was registered on January 22.
