A boy aged four years and five months has been diagnosed with common cold after returning Wuhan city, which has been hit by pneumonia of unknown cause, the Health Bureau (SSM) announced on Monday.
According to an SSM statement, the boy came down with a fever and respiratory tract infection within 14 days after returning to Macau.
According to the Macau Post Daily, the statement said that between January 1 and on Monday the bureau recorded 10 suspected cases involving patients who visited Wuhan and developed a fever and symptoms of respiratory illness within 14 days after returning from that city.
According to the statement, in nine of the cases the possibility of pneumonia of unknown cause has meanwhile been ruled out. Two of the patients were still under observation at the isolation ward of the Conde de S. Januário Hospital Centre yesterday – a 37-year-old woman from Wuhan and a 22-year-old local man. The statement underlined that on Monday both were fever-free, didn’t suffer from pneumonia and were in a stable condition.
Meanwhile, the bureau said in a separate statement that Macau’s stock of surgical masks is sufficient to respond to the needs of the current flu season. According to the statement, the government is cooperating with suppliers and pharmacies to monitor the stock and prevent hoarding and price hikes.
