Macau recorded 10.36 million visitor arrivals in the first quarter of the year, a year-on-year increase of 21.2 percent, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) announced Tuesday.
In 2000, the first full year after the establishment of the Macau Special Administrative Region (MSAR), the number of visitor arrivals stood at 9.1 million.
Overnight visitors (4.7 million) and same-day visitors (5.6 million) rose by 9.3 percent and 33.4 percent respectively.
Visitors’ average length of stay fell by 0.1 day year-on-year to 1.1 days. Overnight visitors’ stay remained unchanged at 2.2 days.
Mainlanders, Hongkongers and Taiwanese accounted for 71.9 percent, 17.3 percent and 2.5 percent of all visitor arrivals in the first three months of the year respectively.
South Koreans continued to be Macau’s top foreign visitor segment, rising 9.2 percent to 262,051.
Last month, Macau recorded 3.39 million visitor arrivals, up 24 percent year-on-year. Visitor arrivals by land surged by 62.4 percent year-on-year to 2.5 million, with 504,370 arriving via the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge. Visitor arrivals by air rose by 15.2 percent to 312,701, while those by sea dropped by 37.9 percent to 571,380.(Macaunews)
