Technical tests of the first LRT trains, which arrived by ship from Japan at Ka Ho Port in Coloane on Sunday, will be carried out at the system’s Ocean Station in Taipa, the Transportation Infrastructure Office (GIT) has announced. However, the office did not say when the tests will start.

According to the Macau Post Daily, the office said in Sunday’s statement that the trains will be sent to the Ocean Station in Avenida dos Jogos da Asia Oriental on the Taipa Line as soon as this week.

On October 20, Japanese manufacturer Mitsubishi Heavy Industries sent the first batch of LRT trains from Japan to Macau. The batch includes four LRT trains – known as “ocean cruisers” – with each weighing 15 tonnes.

A GIT statement earlier this month reaffirmed that the office is planning for the Taipa Line, which comprises 11 stations and covers 9.3 kilometres in Taipa and Cotai, to be up and running in 2019.
