US financial services company Mastercard said in a statement on Monday that it has set up a partnership with the Macau Judiciary Police (PJ) to adopt the Mastercard Forensic Reader (MFR) to tackle card crime.
According to the statement, the MFR is “the first device that helps law enforcement agencies prevent payment card fraud with greater speed, accuracy and efficiency”. The statement said that the MRF resembles an in-store point-of-sale (POS) terminal.
“The introduction of the MFR enables law enforcement agencies to quickly process seized fraudulent cards and verify with the relevant card issuer if the card is a suspected counterfeit in a matter of seconds,” the statement said.
According to the statement, Macau’s Judiciary Police will be among the first to adopt the MFR with future roll-outs to other markets in the Asia-Pacific.
