Public Security Police (PSP) Commissioner Leong Man Cheong said in the legislature on Tuesday that the city’s ‘Tourist Police’ unit was expected to provide assistance to tourists in Taipa and Cotai next year.
Leong made the remarks when answering questions from several lawmakers, on the last day of a two-day Q&A session about the public security portfolio’s policy guidelines for next year.
According to Leong, the 20-member Tourist Police unit has been in operation in the area around the Ruins of St Paul’s since April last year.
Leong said that the unit would expand to 30 members and cover 10 tourist attractions on the peninsula by the end of this year, including Largo do Senado, Largo de Santo Agostinho, and Barra, apart from the Ruins of St Paul’s.
Leong also said that the unit was expected to provide assistance to tourists in Rua do Cunha in Taipa as well as around the casino resorts in Cotai.
Leong said the unit, which he described as a success, would become permanent, as it was helpful in providing assistance to tourists.
