Macau International Airport (MIA) has officially launched the “MIA One ID” smart security and boarding service system, using facial recognition-based identification integrated with the airport’s departure and passenger identification protocols.
This implementation completes a paperless travel process that includes pre-security checks and self-boarding, allowing travellers to enjoy more convenience and efficiency.
Passengers aged 11 or above holding electronic travel documents can enrol for the MIA One ID smart security and boarding service at check-in counters, self-check-in kiosks, or e-security gates. All boarding gates connected to loading bridges are equipped with self-boarding systems.

The technological upgrade commenced in 2025 and required an investment of some 43 million patacas (US$5.3 million). Most of the renovations and security equipment procurement projects were completed in November.
Eight security lanes have meanwhile been equipped with an automated carry-on baggage screening system, automatic tray retrieval, assisted unpacking workstations, and millimeter-wave body imaging security scanners.
The One ID system is a global initiative promoted by the International Air Transport Association (IATA), using biometric identification to enhance the passenger airport experience and improve the efficiency and safety of paperless identity processes.
