China Southern Airlines will be launching a new direct flight between Macao and Beijing’s Daxing airport from 1 April, multiple media outlets report.
The new route, which is operated on an Airbus 321 jetliner, will have flights scheduled every Monday, Wednesday and Friday between 1 and 24 April. From 25 April onwards, the flights will be daily.
The futuristic Daxing is Beijing’s second airport after Capital International Airport, and though it is further from the centre it has a number of advantages. These include drastically shorter transit times and far fewer flight delays, because the arrangement of runways at Daxing means that planes can take off regardless of which direction the wind is coming from.

The introduction of the new route also expands the number of domestic and international options for Macao travellers. From Beijing Daxing, they will be able to connect to flights to China’s Northeast and Northwest regions, as well as international destinations such as Moscow and Istanbul.
The new China Southern flights are scheduled to take roughly 3 hours 20 minutes, taking off at 3:55 pm and arriving at 7:20 pm. The return flights depart Beijing Daxing at 11:35 am and land in Macao at 2:45 pm.
Tickets for the new route can now be booked through the China Southern website or mobile app.
