Macau recorded over 375,000 visitor arrivals during the mainland’s three-day May Day holidays, the Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) said in a statement.
According to the statement citing border checkpoint data, the city registered over 375,000 visitor arrivals (excluding non-resident workers and non-local students) during the Labor Day holidays between Saturday and Monday, a year-on-year rise of 6.7 percent.
Over 338,000 visitor arrivals were mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwan residents, up 5.5 percent. Visitor arrivals from the mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwan increased by 5 percent, 7.5 percent and 5.1 percent respectively, whereas foreign markets registered double-digit growth of 18.9 percent.
According to The Macau Post Daily newspaper, Industry figures showed that Macau’s hotels and guesthouses logged an average occupancy rate of 94.5 percent during the May Day holidays, a year-on-year increase of 2.6 percentage points. The average room rate during the period reached about 1,700 patacas, slightly up by 1.2 percent.
Meanwhile, Macau’s hospitality sector recorded 3.05 million guests in the first quarter, a year-on-year increase of 13.7 percent, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) announced last week.
The average occupancy rate rose by 5.2 percentage points to 83 percent, while guests’ average length of stay remained unchanged at 1.4 nights.
The city’s 108 hotels and guesthouses had 36,000 guestrooms at the end of March, up 13.1 percent year on year. Five-star hotels accounted for 60.2 percent of all guest rooms.
