Macau receives more than 13 million visitors from January to May

From January to May Macau received more than 13 million visitors, an increase of 6.3% over the same period of 2016, according to figures released on Friday by the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC).

From January to May Macau received more than 13 million visitors, an increase of 6.3% over the same period of 2016, according to figures released on Friday by the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC).

Of the 13.18 million visitors received in the first five months of the year, 8.78 million came from mainland China, 2.62 million from Hong Kong, 434,000 from Taiwan and 366,000 from South Korea, or increases of 6.9%, 3.0%, 23% and 38% over the same period of last year.

DSEC also reported that 2.6 million visitors arrived in Macau in May, an increase of 3.7% compared to May 2016.

More than 1.7 million visitors came from mainland China and the majority of them travelled to Macau from the provinces of Guangdong, Hunan and Fujian, which was an increase of 4.4% compared to May 2016.

Also in May, visitors from South Korea (72,000) and Taiwan (89,000) increased by 50% and 9.5%, respectively, while visitors from Hong Kong (494,000) fell by 1.3%.

In 2016, Macau received 30.95 million visitors, a total that is expected to increase in 2017.
