The Labour Affairs Bureau (DSAL) said in a statement on Sunday that its Youth Career Expo 2020 received 3,339 job applications and 61 people were hired on the spot.

The Youth Career Expo 2020, co-organised by the Labour Affairs Bureau, Macau New Chinese Youth Association and General Association of Chinese Students of Macau, was held in Hall R at the Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) over the weekend.

According to the statement, the two-day event had over 4,000 attendees, offered 3,000 job vacancies, and 193 people had an interview at the venue.

The statement said that the event aimed to educate local youths about the city’s recruitment situation and teach them job-hunting techniques, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The statement added that 63 companies took part in the event, over 30 different types of jobs were on offer, including those in finance, technology and retail. The statement also said the organisers hoped that by providing various kinds of jobs, youths could explore different opportunities. According to the statement, on Saturday and Sunday, around 2,225 people used DSAL’s career support service.

The statement quoted a company that took part in the Youth Career Expo as saying that the event is “a very good platform for companies to understand local youths’ job-seeking attitude”, adding that it is “a good way to communicate with recent graduates”.

The statement didn’t mention the types of employment those hired on the spot would be involved in.

The bureau said in the statement that it was satisfied with the numbers, adding that the event had met its expectations.
