The Macao Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) issued today a “very cold weather” warning, forecasting that the mercury will drop to 6 degrees Celsius “or below” tonight.

The “orange” warning urged the public to take precautions against the very cold weather. The “orange” warning is the observatory’s most severe cold weather alert. “Yellow” warns of “cold” weather.

Customarily, the government’s winter shelter in Ilha Verde district opens when the mercury drops to 12 degrees Celsius.

The weather station also issued a winter monsoon alert, which has brought “very cold and very dry” weather to Macao.

At 6:30 pm the mercury stood at 7.9 degrees Celsius while relative humidity amounted to 47 per cent.

The bureau forecast tomorrow’s temperature to range between 5 degrees and 11 degrees Celsius. It predicted the very cold weather to continue through Tuesday next week.
