The seventh term of the Legislative Assembly (AL) of the Macao Special Administrative Region will formally commence with the election of its president, vice-president and first and second secretaries on Saturday, the legislature has announced. 

According to the AL, the election of the president, vice-president and first and second secretaries will take place on Saturday at 3 pm in the legislature’s hemicycle. They will be elected by the 33 members of the legislature. 

The lawmakers will be sworn in at noon on Saturday, while the president, vice-president and two secretaries will be sworn in at 4 pm. The swearing-in ceremonies will be held at the China-Portuguese-speaking Countries Commercial and Trade Service Platform Complex near the Legislative Assembly building in Praia Grande (Nam Van).

Macao’s direct and indirect Legislative Assembly elections were held on 12 September. While14 lawmakers were directly elected by universal suffrage, 12 were indirectly elected by association representatives. After the elections, seven lawmakers were appointed by Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng, The Macau Post Daily reported. Each term of the legislature lasts four years.
