Campaigning for this autumn’s Legislative Assembly (AL) election is warming up after a second group put its name forward.

Representatives of the District Development Promotion Association have submitted 500 registered voters’ signatures endorsing the group’s candidacy to the Legislative Assembly Electoral Affairs Commission.

The association, which was set up in 2018, is a think-tank studying matters affecting civil society, urging the government to come up with policies to improve residents’ daily lives.

Chan Tak Seng, the association’s chairman, said that his association will focus on urban planning, illegal inns, and sham marriages, and that his candidacy list would comprise professionals from the legal and other sectors as well as civic leaders working for the community.

The group did not run in the AL’s direct election four years ago when 25 candidacy lists vied for the 14 seats at stake, The Macau Post Daily reported. The direct and indirect legislative elections will take place on 12 September.
