The Education and Youth Affairs Bureau’s (DSEJ) Youth Department Chief Un Hoi Cheng said yesterday the government was planning to extend art education to include P6, as well as to strengthen co-operation with art museums.

Un made the remarks after a meeting of the Youth Affairs Committee at the bureau on Tuesday. She is a member of the committee.

Un said the government planned to extend its “Secondary Pupils Art Education Plan” to include P6 pupils in its continuous effort to further diversify Macau’s education and to improve children’s’ understanding of modern arts. She said the bureau would also provide more art workshops for the city’s children and work with art museums to develop their interest in art.

According to Un, the bureau subsidized 95 youth organizations, providing about 8.6 million patacas in total, last year. She said she believed the government’s austerity measures will not negatively impact the bureau’s support for youth activities.
