Representatives of the city’s Macanese community yesterday urged Chief Executive Fernando Chui Sai On, the sole candidate of the August 31 chief executive election, to improve the quality of health care and administrative efficiency in his second 5-year term which begins on December 20.

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a cocktail party which seven Macanese and Portuguese community groups hosted at the Macau World Trade Centre so that Chui could introduce his election campaign platform to their members, lawmaker-cum-lawyer Leonel Alberto Alves said that the Macanese had the same concerns on livelihood issues as other locals and urged the government to improve housing, traffic, education and health care.

The seven groups included the Holy House of Mercy, the Macanese Association and the International Lusophone Markets Business Association.

“We especially hope the quality of health care can reach international standards,” António José de Freitas, who heads the Holy House of Mercy, said, adding, ‘This is a daily topic in our community… After all we [Macanese] are used to the health care [system] in the West. We hope that the standard of health care in Macau can be improved”.
