The Personal Data Protection Office (GPDP) Thursday urged the operators of drones for aerial filming and photography to ensure that they do not violate the Personal Data Protection Law.
The office said in a statement that while drones may contribute to socio-economic development, they also pose a challenge to citizens’ privacy since there are able to produce clear images and sound from a distance.
According to the statement, drone operators must respect the principles of legality, good faith and proportionality. They also must ensure that the data (photographs, videos and sound) are being collected for legitimate purposes only.
The statement warned that drone operators must not produce images – photographs or video footage – that involve people’s private lives, such photos or video images of the interior of a private home, without their express consent.
Unless legally stated otherwise, drone operators are not allowed to record sound.
The statement warned that aerial photography and filming by drones may also violate certain articles of the Macau Penal Code.(macaunews/macaupost)
