The Unitary Police Service (SPU) joined forces with the Judiciary Police (PJ) and Public Security Police (PSP) in the two-month anti-crime “Thunderbolt 2014” operation, which ended this week, resulting in 827 deportations.
Senior officials including Joao Augusto da Rosa, an assistant to SPU Commissioner-General Ma Io Weng, and PSP Deputy Commissioner Mui San Meng the PSP jointly presided over a press conference at the SPU headquarters to give a summary of the operation.
According to an SPU statement, the operation started on the 1st of November. SPU, PJ and PSP officers inspected a raft of locations around the city including gaming venues, karaoke lounges, bars, amusement arcades and saunas, totalling 750 swoops.
Officers also checked the identity documents of 18,600 people comprising 14,481 men and 4,119 women. Among them, 146 were found to have entered the city illegally, eight were found to be working illegally, 63 were overstayers, 580 were wanted for criminal offences and 30 were found to be engaging in activities breaching their tourist stay permits.
The Thunderbolt 2014 operation was simultaneously carried out in Macau, Hong Kong and Guangdong. (macaunews/macaupost)
