President Xi Jinping met with newly appointed Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng at the Fujian Hall of the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Wednesday afternoon, congratulating Ho for becoming the new Macau Chief Executive.

As the fifth-term Chief Executive of the Macau Special Administrative Region, Xi says that Ho has upheld patriotism for the longest time and is enthusiastic in serving the people of Macau. Having devoted himself through various public positions, serving in the National People’s Congress Standing Committee and the Macau’s Legislative Assembly, Ho has made positive efforts for the country’s reform, modernising infrastructure, and for the prosperity and stability of Macau. The contribution of the central government is fully affirmed.

Xi also pointed out that during the election for the fifth-term Chief Executive, Ho was nominated with high votes, demonstrating that Macau widely recognised him worthy of the leadership position.

“This year marks the 20th anniversary of Macau’s return to China, and within the last 20 years, the past two chief executives Edmund Ho Hau Wah and Fernando Chui Sai On has united Macau under the “One Country, Two Systems” principle, firmly upholding the constitution and the Macau Basic Law. Macau’s rapid economic growth, continuous improvement of people’s livelihoods, social stability and harmony shows the rest of the world the successful practice of the “One Country, Two Systems” in Macau.” writes the Macao Daily.

The paper also said that “Xi entrusts Ho with the future of Macau looking forward, while uniting the new government of Macau to work together, reform and innovate, carefully planning its long-term development under the “One Country, Two Systems” principle.”

Before meeting the president of People’s Republic of China, Ho Iat Seng received from Premier Li Keqiang the State Council decree designating him as the fifth-term chief executive of the Macau Special Administrative Region (MSAR).
