Macao Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng has met with President Xi Jinping who is in Hong Kong to attend the Hong Kong SAR’s 25th anniversary.

During the meeting, Xi said the central government fully recognised the work of Ho and his administration and hoped he would continue to “seek progress while maintaining stability, and unremittingly prevent and control the epidemic,” quoted SCMP.

The president also added that Macao’s chief executive must continue to “relive people’s hardships, strive to promote economic recovery, firmly promote moderately diversified economic development, and make every effort to maintain social stability.”

This is the first time since the beginning of the pandemic that Chinese President Xi Jinping has left mainland China. Xi is expected to spend two days in the SAR to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Hong Kong and the inauguration ceremony of the city’s next Beijing appointed leader John Lee, a former police officer and security chief.

Macao’s Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng and his delegation will leave Hong Kong today. Upon returning to Macao, each delegation member will undergo nucleic acid tests on days 1, 2, 4 and 7 counting from the time of re-entry, during which time all delegation members will not be allowed to attend activities that require face mask’s removal.
