The Macau Customs Service announced Wedensday in a press conference that officers had seized 1,430 counterfeit Dove body lotions from five pharmacies and a storage lock-up, collaring three men and five women.

A Customs Service spokesperson told The Macau Post Daily that the Consumer Council referred complaints from the general public to officers, indicating that five pharmacies located in the northern and central districts were selling the counterfeit products.

Officers began the investigation and discovered that staff in the five pharmacies placed counterfeit Dove body lotions alongside genuine ones to fool customers.

After gathering enough evidence with the help of the product’s copyright holder, officers took action on Tuesday and raided the pharmacies, arresting eight staff members including salespeople, pharmacists and three managers, all aged between 25 and 45.

According to the spokesperson, the total retail price of the 1,430 counterfeit Dove body lotions seized by the officers is over 50,000 patacas.

The spokesperson said the logos on the counterfeit Dove body lotions looked very similar to the real ones, but the they have no information regarding the manufacturer.

After it was confirmed that they are copyright-infringed items, the three managers will be sent to Public Prosecution Office (MP), facing up to five years behind bars if found guilty.(macaunews)
