Chief Executive Fernando Chui Sai On pledged on the 31st December 2014 that his government will strengthen the study of President Xi Jinping’s “four hopes”, which Chui described as vital guidelines for Macau’s future development and government measures.
Chui made the promise in this 2015 New Year’s message.
Xi expressed the “four hopes” during his two-day visit to Macau last month.
They are for Macau to continue to make vigorous efforts to enhance the ability and quality of law-based governance; make overall planning and actively promote appropriately diversified and sustainable development; build a solid foundation and work for social harmony and stability; be future-orientated and strengthen the upbringing of the younger generation.
Chui also pledged further efforts to promote economic diversification and the creation of a liveable environment.
Chui also warned of possible “difficulties and challenges” in the near future.
He called for a “spirit of solidarity” and joint efforts to achieve an “even brighter future” for Macau.
Meanwhile, Li Gang, director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in Macau, said in his New Year’s message that 2015 should be the first year for Macau to implement what Xi expects regarding the future development of the city under the leadership of Chui’s new government.
Li said he believed Chui’s new government will be motivated by Xi’s speeches and work with different sectors in Macau to build a better future for the city. He also mentioned Xi’s “four hopes” as the “spirit” for Macau’s future development.
Meanwhile, Foreign Ministry Commissioner Hu Zhengyue said in a separate New Year’s message that the “four hopes” raised by President Xi Jinping recently have given Macau a clear direction for the city’s future development, adding he believed that Macau will have a bright future.
He added that the commission is determined to prevent “external powers” from permeating and interfering in the city’s internal affairs. (macaunews/macaupost)
