A total of 238 applications of the 312 received are permitted to import domestic helpers from Guangdong and Fujian , the Human Resources Office (GRH) said in a statement Monday.
The statement cited by The Macau Post Daily said that from December 16 to January 30, the office received a total of 312 applications to import domestic helpers from the two provinces.
The measure to allow locals to hire domestic helpers from the mainland came after the central government gave the local government the green light to implement the measure with Guangdong and Fujian being the first two provinces.
The 238 applications that meet all the requirements in the scheme comprise 202 applying for domestic helpers from Guangdong and 36 from Fujian .
The GRH statement said it would publish a list of applicants that are allowed to hire domestic helpers from the mainland in due course.
According to figures from the Statistics and Census Service, a total of 18,085 people were employed as domestics last year.
Most of the city’s domestic helpers are from the Philippines , Indonesia and Vietnam . Many locals want to hire domestic helpers from the mainland because of the similar cultural background and language.(macaunews)
