Banks, public utilities, and two government departments are among the recipients in Macao’s Honours List this year.
Charitable society Tung Sin Tong was awarded the second highest decoration, the Golden Lotus.
Portugal’s Banco Nacional Ultramarino and local Banco Tai Fung were each awarded the third highest decoration, the Silver Lotus, which was also awarded to Lai Kin Hong, who recently retired as the president of the Court of Second Instance. The Macau Red Cross also received the Silver Lotus.
Public utilities Macao Water, CEM and Mo Hui were awarded the Medal of Merit in the Professions category.
Leading businessman Carlos Leitão Rodrigues, bus company Transmac and insurance company Taiping were each awarded the Medal of Merit – Industry and Commerce.
The Macau Hoteliers’ Association was awarded the Medal of Merit – Tourism.
Other awardees include the Macanese Gastronomy Fraternity (Medal of Merit – Culture), Hou Kong School (Medal of Merit – Education), Caritas Macau Secretary-General Paul Pun Chi Meng (Medal of Merit – Philanthropy) and Lok Pó Swimming Club (Medal of Merit – Sports).
The Information Department of the Government Information Bureau and Financial Infrastructure and Information Technology Department of the Macao Monetary Authority were each awarded the Medal for Dedication. The Macau Association of Construction Machinery Owners was awarded the Medal of Community Service.
Macao’s top decoration, the Grand Lotus, was not awarded this year.
The honours will be awarded at a ceremony on 13 January.
