Macau, China, 6 Jan – The ministerial meeting of the Forum for Economic and Trade Cooperation between China and the Portuguese-Speaking Countries should be held in May, Macau Chief Executive Fernando Chui Sai On has stated.
The meeting will coincide with the opening of the Shanghai Expo 2010 in China.
The Forum’s ministerial meeting is held every three years but had been postponed last year due to celebrations of Macau’s tenth anniversary as a special administrative region of China.
The first meeting of the Forum for Economic and Trade Cooperation between China and the Portuguese-Speaking Countries took place in October 2003 followed by another in September 2006.
The Macau Forum is headed by secretary-general, Chang Hexi that was previously linked to the Chinese Trade Ministry and he also had various roles in the Chinese Embassies of Portuguese-speaking countries.
Chang Hexi has been involved in the Forum since it began and was involved in the organisation of the 1st Ministerial Conference and worked on the 2nd Ministerial Conference.
Chui Sai On made his comments on Tuesday adding that Economy and Finance Secretary Francis Tam is coordinating the event’s organisation in Macau.
Macau’s new chief executive held the social affairs and culture portfolios for ten years during the two terms of the Macau Special Administrative Region’s first chief executive, Edmund Ho Hau Wah.
