Macau, China, 14 Aug – The government of Macau and China’s Sichuan province signed Thursday and agreement that will see Macau finance another 23 reconstruction projects at a cost of 933 million Yuan (137 million dollars) in post-quake Sichuan.

Under the agreement, the Macau government has earmarked the amount needed for the projects comprising four health facilities, 16 education establishments and three sports centers, all of which are due for completion by 2011.

Previously the Macau government had already announced the funding of another 59 reconstruction projects in Sichuan involving a total cost of three billion Yuan (440 million dollars).

Most of the 59 projects have been completed and the remaining schools projects are scheduled for completion early next year, according to a statement by the Macau government.

Aside from the existing projects, the Macau government said it will continue to finance more reconstruction projects in Sichuan, the third batch of which was still being reviewed by the Sichuan provincial government and that would be submitted to the local government to assessment in due course.

The quake in Sichuan in May last year left more than 69,000 people dead and damage buildings including schools.
