University of Macau’s new campus based in Hengqin Island in south China’s Guangdong Province is expected to be put into use in September, a chinese provincial official said Friday.

The campus will accommodate about 10,000 students within three years, said Chui Sai On, chief executive of the Macau Special Administrative Region (SAR) at a joint work conference with the Guangdong provincial government on Friday.

According to the Guangdong provincial governor Zhu Xiaodan said the contractor is currently inspecting the project and debugging the equipment in order to hand in the campus to Macau smoothly.

Construction of the new campus, based in Hengqin Island in Zhuhai City which neighbors Macau, started on Dec. 20, 2009. Its area will be 20 times larger than its headquarters in Macau.(macaunews)
