Beijing-based Power China International Group is evaluating new hydro-engineering works in Angola, to fight drought in the country, according to its CEO Ji Xiaoyong.
During a meeting with Angolan President João Lourenço, Ji addressed issues related to investments against drought.
The talks focused on projects for the transfer of river water to localities with a water deficit in Cuanza Sul and in the southern provinces of Huila and Namibe.
At the end of the discussion, Ji explained that the technical analyses of Power China International are in the preliminary phase and should lead to projects such as the one recently put into operation in Cunene.
This new project will allow the transfer of water from Cafu to the areas of Ombala yo Mungo, Ndombendola and Namacunde.
The Cafu canal, inaugurated in April by President Lourenço, consists of a system for capturing and transferring water from the Cunene river to other districts, which includes a 160-kilometre pipeline and 30 watering places for cattle with the capacity of 30 million litres each.
Due to the recent drought, thousands of cattle have died and famine has affected several provinces of Angola, CLBrief reported.
