Cabo Verde wants to privatise nine public sector companies, from telecommunications and transport to banking, by 2026, according to a resolution by the Council of Ministers that revokes a 20-strong list drawn up back in 2017.
The new list of companies in the Public Business Sector (SEE) “subject to privatisation/partial disposal/licensing/concession” or public-private partnerships now includes Caixa Económica de Cabo Verde bank, one of the largest in the country.
The Cabnave shipyards, CV Handling and the airline TACV, privatised in 2019 and renationalised in 2021, as well as the Cabo Verde Telecom group, remain in the list approved five years ago.
Also on the list of privatisations or concessions that the government intends to complete between now and 2026 are the state-owned company that manages the ports of the Enapor archipelago, the medicine and pharmaceutical company Emprofac, as well as the electricity and water production companies Electra and Boa Vista Waters and Energy.
The list approved in 2017 included 23 entities, such as the company ASA, which manages the country’s airports, whose activity was under concession to the Vinci group, and the oil company Enacol.
