Heli-Eastern’s air taxi service will be available on an app as early as this month, Ming Pao reports.

When the app becomes available, passengers will be able to book the Shenzhen-based carrier’s helicopters from their smartphones, allowing them to rapidly travel between Shenzhen and different parts of the GBA.

Currently, Heli-Eastern operates helicopter routes within Shenzhen, as well as flights between Shenzhen and other parts of the GBA, including Guangzhou and Hong Kong.

Flights can vary considerably in price depending on the selected route, with the cheapest advertised being the 988 yuan, 37-kilometre hop between Shenzhen’s Yangzi Lake International Convention and Exhibition Centre to the city’s international airport. The ride takes 13 minutes.

Pricier rides such as the Shenzhen Bao’an airport to Hong Kong’s Shun Tak Centre can cost as much as 68,800 yuan per person.

“We have flights scheduled everyday. If we’re talking about [flights] within Shenzhen, then the latest you can book is 30 minutes beforehand,” Heli-Eastern’s Business Manager, Li Long Fei, told media.

As one of China’s most technologically advanced cities, Shenzhen has been promoting the idea of air taxis as a means of opening up a so-called “low-altitude economy.”

Heli-Eastern is one of the main air taxi operators in Shenzhen, having conducted more than 5,000 flights in 2023 alone.
