The tourism offices of Macao, Zhuhai and Zhongshan held a meeting in Zhongshan yesterday to discuss deepening collaboration between the three cities and the joint expansion of their visitor markets.

According to a statement, the event was attended by the head of the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes; the chief of the Zhongshan Culture, Radio, Television and Tourism Bureau, Huang Jianmin; and the director of the Zhuhai Tourism Development Centre, Zhong Guohuai.

Senna Fernandes said that the three cities, which are part of a tourism alliance established in 2006, would continue to pool their resources together to “deepen” the development of multi-destination travel in 2025. The three partners also pledged to hold joint tourism road shows in different cities across the Greater Bay Area (GBA).

Updating the publication A Handbook of Gastronomy in Zhongshan, Zhuhai and Macao is another priority, along with promoting the three cities in the Southeast Asian market and expanding the alliance’s branding.

Meetings between Macao, Zhuhai and Zhongshan’s tourism offices are held on an annual basis, with the cities alternating in the role of the event’s chairperson each year. The rotating chairperson for this year was Senna Fernandes.

Tourism in the GBA has developed significantly in recent years, thanks to infrastructure projects such as the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge and the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link, as well as conducive measures that include the northbound travel scheme for the two SARs, and multiple-entry permits for Zhuhai, Hengqin and Shenzhen residents that were introduced at the beginning of this year.
