Face-to-face classes will resume on 15 September at the University of Macau (UM), while online classes will continue until the day before.

Under the latest regulations, all students are required to return to their place of residence in Macao, Zhuhai and Zhongshan 14 days prior to the resumption of in-class teaching, so non-residential students need to return to their place of residence on or before next Tuesday.

The ruling also applies to UM students who reside in the residential colleges or the Postgraduate House.

In line with Covid-19 pandemic prevention and control guidelines, if the student or their co-resident visited areas other than Zhuhai or Zhongshan after 6 August, he or she must undergo a nucleic acid test and obtain a negative result before the resumption of classroom teaching.

The university started its new semester on 18 August but due to the novel coronavirus pandemic, classes have been conducted online.

Earlier this week, Education and Youth Development Bureau Deputy Director Kong Chi Meng announced that the city’s schools and kindergartens will start their new academic year on 1 September as scheduled, while higher education institutions can resume in-class teaching from 6 September, provided that Macao’s Covid-19 situation “does not have any major changes”.

Kong also said that his bureau “has been paying close attention to Covid-19 prevention and control measures for the new academic year, and maintaining close communication with the Health Bureau in assessing the local and mainland’s latest Covid-19 developments”, The Macau Post Daily reported.
