A child protection centre run by the Against Child Abuse (Macau) Association received some 70 enquiries or requests for help last year related to domestic violence.

The figure was reported by TDM.

The association cited two domestic violence cases reported in Macao in the past week alone.

Meanwhile, a shelter operated by the Women’s General Association of Macau said that it provided refuge for 55 women and 34 underage children last year.

Since the beginning of 2023, seven women and four children have been accommodated. Most of those cases were related to domestic violence.

The women’s association is urging the local government to review the city’s Law on Preventing and Combating Domestic Violence.

It is also planning for more staff training and more activities through its shelter to further promote the message of zero-tolerance for domestic violence, TDM reported.
