Tropical Depression Nuri has spared Macao and faded away with minimal impact.
The Macao Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) announced in a statement on Sunday that all storm warning signals were lowered at 1 p.m., when Nuri was located about 210 kilometres west of Macao. According to the statement, Nuri was forecast to move west-north-west at around 22 km/h.
The stand-by signal No. 1 was hoisted by the bureau at 7 p.m. on Friday. It was upgraded to the strong-storm signal No. 3 at 6 p.m. on Saturday. All signals were cancelled at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
In Hong Kong, all signals were cancelled at 1:20 p.m. on Sunday, according to public broadcaster RTHK, which also noted that “the first storm of the summer faded away with minimal impact.”
RTHK quoted a forecaster of the Hong Kong Observatory as saying that the weather was expected to remain unstable and showery today and tomorrow.
According to the radio station, the Hong Kong Observatory expects between four and seven typhoon this year, “although there’s no way to predict their strength,” pointing out that Hong Kong experienced five typhoons last year.
