The last patient hospitalised in Macau with COVID-19 was discharged from the hospital today, the health authorities have announced.
The 64-year-old local woman is the last patient infected with COVID-19 to be discharged. She has been hospitalised since February 2. From today onwards, there are no more COVID-19 infected patients hospitalised in the city.
“I have good news to share. This afternoon we discharged the tenth patient. Now nobody is hospitalised because of this disease and there were no deaths from the new coronavirus either,” said Lei Chin Ion, director of Macau Health Bureau (SSM) during a press conference today.
According to the authorities there are still 224 people in isolation, 6 in quarantine and 58 Macau residents isolated because they have been in South Korea and Italy.
During today’s press conference, Leong Iek Hou, coordinator of the Center for the Prevention and Infectious Diseases and Disease Surveillance, said that “people who were in the high-incidence zone are not sick, so at this moment they are not at risk of infection” and therefore, “family members and colleagues should not be too concerned”.
“The risk of spreading in the community and in the family is not very high. I hope the community will show understanding towards these people and not discriminate against them”, added Leong.
