The Macau government announced tonight the city’s 26th novel coronavirus case, a 17-year-old local girl studying in the UK.

According to a statement by the Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre, the student took Emirates flight EK4 (seat 70D) from London’s Heathrow Airport to Dubai on March 20, accompanied by her elder brother. In Dubai, both took Emirates flight EK372 (seat 27D) to Bangkok where they transferred to Air Macau flight NX881 (seat 10A), which arrived in Macau on Monday.

At the local airport the student told Health Bureau (SSM) officials that she had a runny nose, headache and other health issues over the past 14 days. She was taken by ambulance from the airport to the special emergency department of the public Conde de São Januário Hospital where she tested negative for the novel coronavirus, after which she was transferred to the Health Bureau’s Public Health Clinical Centre in Coloane for medical observation, where she tested positive for the virus today.

The statement described her condition as “stable.” The girl was transferred today to the isolation ward of the public hospital. As a close contact, her elder brother will be transferred for medical observation to the clinical centre in Coloane, the statement pointed out.

The statement urged anyone who travelled on any of the three flights that both took to contact hotline 2870 0800.
