All Macao’s colleges and universities have now resumed face-to-face teaching, and most mainland Chinese students have already started their studies in Macao.
Education and Youth Development Bureau Higher Education Department Head Carlos Roberto Xavier said that there are 49,000 university students this year; about 34,000 are non-local students, 32,000 of whom are from mainland China. He pointed out that the overall enrolment rate has increased by more than 4,000 compared with previous years.
Speaking following the opening of the Macao Historic Map Exhibition at the Macao University of Science and Technology in Taipa, Xavier said that over 90 per cent of teachers and students in tertiary education have been vaccinated. He noted that the bureau will continue to enhance communication with the Health Bureau while calling on the teachers and students who have not been vaccinated to get jabbed as soon as possible.
Xavier added that about 50 local students studying in Taiwan were affected by Sunday’s 6.8-magnitude earthquake in Taitung County. He underlined that the bureau will continue to maintain close communication with the students, schools and associations in Taiwan to provide assistance to students in need, The Macau Post Daily reported.
