Macao’s tertiary institutions must follow and promote the “Loving the Country, Loving Macao” principle in future, according to the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Elsie Ao Ieong U.
Ao Ieong, who made reference to the “Macao Higher Education Development Guidelines in the Medium and Long Term”, said that education has long been the government’s priority, adding that with the support of the central government and the efforts of the whole community, Macao’s education system has been “swiftly developed”. She added that the quality and scale of the city’s higher education has become more international.
The Macau Post Daily reported that Ao Ieong underlined that Macao is now facing a “hopeful and challenging era”. She said that Macao has the aim of being more integrated with the nation, especially through its involvement in the Greater Bay Area. She pointed out that in order for the city to achieve its goal, tertiary education needed to take on an important role, adding that the education system should adjust its strategy in the areas of culture, curricula and teaching to train a new generation that helps Macao abide by the “One Country, Two Systems” principle.
According to Ao Ieong, in the future, the government will continue to support City University of Macau and other tertiary institutions. The policy secretary overseeing the education sector said she hoped the institutions would keep up with Macao’s and the nation’s demands and train more patriotic youths for future development.
