The Hong Kong-based Indonesian Consulate-General has handed out 5,000 facemasks to Indonesian migrant workers in Macau, public broadcaster TDM-Radio Macau reported on Sunday.
According to the report, each Indonesian national was entitled to five facemasks, while each association of Indonesian migrant workers received 500 facemasks free of charge.
The consulate-general is simultaneously accredited to Macau.
The report said that the consulate began to hand out the facemasks in Macau last week.
According to official statistics, 6,043 Indonesian migrant workers were employed in Macau at the end of last year, with domestic helpers accounting for nearly 70 per cent.
The Macau government is selling 10 facemasks to residents and non-resident workers at the fixed price of 8 patacas every 10 days.
Radio Macau quoted a source at the consulate as saying that while the Macau government is selling facemasks at a relatively low price, the consulate was keen to hand out facemasks free of charge to its nationals in Macau.
