Lau Fong Chi, the head of the Public Relations Division of the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), announced today that the government has rebooked the 270-room Regency Art Hotel – which is located on Taipa Island – and will be used as a government-designated hotel for quarantine starting tomorrow.
This came after the government rebooked the 300-room Golden Crown China Hotel on 1 August and the 450-room Treasure Hotel on 6 August.
Currently, there are now four government-arranged ‘quarantine hotels’ – Regency Art Hotel, Treasure Hotel, Golden Crown China Hotel, as well as the 298-room Pousada Marina Infante hotel in Cotai.
There were 12 “quarantine hotels” at the local COVID-19 peak in late March.
The Regency Art Hotel, the Treasure Hotel, and the Golden Crown China Hotel all returned to their normal hospitality roles in April, after all those who completed their 14-day quarantine and medical observation had checked out.
Meanwhile, Health Bureau’s (SSM) Control of Communicable Diseases and Surveillance of Diseases Department Coordinator Leong Iek Hou said that as of 10 August, there have been 1) no COVID-19 community transmissions in Macao, 2) that there have been no new local cases for 134 consecutive days and 3) there have been no imported cases in 45 consecutive days.
Macao has had 46 confirmed cases, all of whom have been discharged and completed the 14-day recovery period. Out of Macao’s 46 cases, 44 have been classified as imported by the Health Bureau, while two have been classified as cases connected to imported ones.
