The Social Affairs Bureau (IAS) will publish its first report in September about its findings on domestic violence cases, Daniel Tang Yuk Wa, who heads the bureau’s Family and Community Services Department, said on Sunday.
The Law on Preventing and Combating Domestic Violence came into force in October last year.
According to previous media reports, the bureau announced early this month that it will publish data about domestic violence cases every six months, such as the financial situation of the families affected by domestic violence and the causes of the cases. The anonymous data will be released on the bureau’s website.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a public event, Tang reaffirmed his bureau’s announcement, adding that the compilation of the report was in its final stages. He said it would be “no problem” to publish the report in September.
The bureau said in March that it was planning a centre as a place for male domestic violence victims and culprits to have a “time-out” – giving them time to calm down after they have been abused by family members, or abused members of their family.
Tang said the centre was being run by a social service organisation, adding it provides 11 beds for male domestic violence victims and culprits. He also said no victims or culprits had used the services provided by the centre yet.
According to Tang, there were 29 reported domestic violence cases in the first quarter of this year while there were 31 reported cases in the previous quarter.
