Three eateries have been ordered to close after inspections confirmed that their food was supplied from an illegal food processing factory in a residential flat in Taipa, Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) said in a statement on Thursday.
The illegal food factory was busted by the police earlier this month. Cockroaches were seen scurrying around the area where the food was being processed, and live fish were cut on chopping boards for fish cakes in the toilet.
The IAM statement said that after further investigation, the fish were supplied to eateries in Taipa – a dumpling shop and two shops registered on food delivery app “Aomi”, one known for serving Chinese-style sauerkraut fish and the other for grilled fish.
The statement, which was only available in Chinese last night, identified the three eateries by their Chinese names – 匠人胡包子铺，鱼婆婆可以喝汤的酸菜鱼 (Yu Po Po Boiled Fish with Pickled Cabbage and Chili), and 鱼小妹烤鱼＆蛙蛙.
The statement said that the bureau has also ordered Aomi to take the two eateries off its app.
According to the statement, breaching the Food Safety Law is punishable with a fine of MOP 50,000 to MOP 600,000, or even five years in jail. The statement also said that anyone with doubts about the food they have bought from the eateries should call the food safety hotline on 2833 8181.
